R20 Program Director
As the R20 Program Director, Ms. Gravender is responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations in the United States, and serves as the liaison to R20 members and partners in North, Central, and South America. She is part of the executive management team which supports all aspects of the Secretariat’s work, including governance design, strategic planning, financial management, project management, and operations.
Ms. Gravender has over fifteen years of experience in environmental policy and management. Her areas of expertise include: non-profit and executive management; project management; state, regional and federal climate policy analysis; greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and verification protocol development; international GHG standards and policy developments; GHG database tools development and management; and strategic GHG management and mitigation for both commercial operations and public agencies.
Ms. Gravender has particular expertise in GHG emissions accounting and verification issues. In 2009, she testified before the Subcommittee on Energy and Environment of the U.S House of Representative’s Committee on Science and Technology as an expert on GHG measurement and verification.
Prior to joining Seventh Generation Advisors, Ms. Gravender served as the Director, Western Region Climate Change Services at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), wherein she provided strategic advice and consulting services to a diverse array of public and private clients. Her previous positions include: Vice President, Policy at The Climate Registry; Director of Water Programs at Environment Now Foundation; National and Operations Officer as well as Vice President of Programs at the California Climate Action Registry; and Director of Operations at the New America Foundation.
Ms. Gravender has a Bachelors degree in Economics from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
